Kath Howells - Success Story - 08/11/2006

Prior to joining Llanelli Rural Council Training in August 2004, Kathryn had been unemployed since April 1976. She was bringing up her three children as a lone parent from 1996. She was demotivated, lacked self-confidence and self worth and did not believe she could, or would, achieve recognised qualifications or secure worthwhile employment.

Kath Howells - Success Story

Kathryn joined our Skillbuild Programme, which gave her the desire to learn new skills and the opportunity to be accredited for existing ones. She was keen and enthusiastic from the offset and was taken on as a work placement at our Admin/IT Training Centre. She was an exemplary learner and was able to help and support other less able learners. She has achieved many qualifications, most with distinction eg NVQ Business and Administration Level 2 and many single subject examinations.

Due to Kathryn’s competence in performing a variety of vocational tasks for the Council during her training, and the fact that she was so determined, enthusiastic, willing and positive, she was encouraged to progress onto a Modern Apprenticeship Programme. Kathryn is now employed by Llanelli Rural Council Training on a full time basis, participating on a Business Administration Foundation Modern Apprentice Framework. She is a valued member of staff who is always professional, cheerful, willing and patient, performing any tasks requested of her to a high standard. She is empathetic to the needs of other learners that she comes into contact with within the training department, always ready to encourage and support.

Kathryn’s diligence, willingness to always help others and cheerful personality has now made her many friends, including other learners and staff. She is now a highly respected and valued member of staff with Llanelli Rural Council Training Department.

Kathryn is an excellent Ambassador for training in Wales. She has overcome many personal fears and has grown into a confident, well-respected and valued team member
