Milestone 200 Apprentices with Royal Mail

Our 200th Learner – Ian Jones

Based at Carmarthen delivery office, Ian approached his Union Representative enquiring about funding for LGV licencing and was informed of the Apprenticeship opportunity with LRC Training.

Ian already holds C1 licence but wants to upskill to a Class 1 licence to improve his chances of obtaining a longer and more rewarding career in the future.  Ian sees the Apprenticeship as a good opportunity to gain recognised qualifications for his industry skills and knowledge whilst receiving valuable support to obtain his LGV licence.

Delivering career progression opportunities

LRC Training has been providing Apprenticeships in Royal Mail since 2012.

In collaboration with the Communication Workers Union, 200 candidates have taken up the opportunity to enhance their career prospects.

The majority of these candidates have undertaken the Foundation Apprenticeship in Driving Goods Vehicles and gained funding to upskill to an LGV licence.

What’s Involved in the Foundation Apprenticeship in Driving Goods Vehicles?

Off the Job Training Days

Develop Literacy and Numeracy skills by using an online learning tool and attending workshops with a tutor.

Complete Essential Communication Skills and Essential Application of Number Skills qualifications by completing controlled tasks and confirmatory tests at the required level.

Demonstrate driving knowledge by answering knowledge questions that relate to the units selected for the Level 2 Certificate in Driving Goods Vehicles.

Candidates confirm their knowledge of their Rights and Responsibilities as an employee by completing a workbook.

On the Job Training Days

Drivers demonstrate that both their driving skills and knowledge meet the professional standards, as defined by the Sector Skills Council, Skills for Logistics.  Candidates are observed on-the-job by an industry qualified assessor and must be able to demonstrate a range of competencies including driving efficiently, preparing the vehicle, loading and unloading safely and correctly  and contributing to effective customer service.

LGV Practical Training

LRC Training will organise revision, training and tests for LGV Theory, Hazard Perception, Initial Driver CPC and LGV Practical so that candidates can achieve their full professional LGV driver status.

Kick-start Your Career!

LRC Training offers apprenticeships in Driving Goods Vehicles, Logistics Operations, Warehousing and Storage, Passenger Carrying Vehicles, Customer Service and Business Administration.
